Walnut (Juglans) ‘Buccaneer’

Along with ‘Broadview’, walnut ‘Buccaneer’ is one of the most suitable self-fertile varieties for growing in the UK. Hardy, late-cropping and vigorous, Juglans regia ‘Buccaneer’ produces heavy crops of tasty round nuts, starting to produce fruit after only 3-5 years. Harvest green for pickling in July or wait until Autumn to dry out and store. Producing copious pollen, ‘Buccaneer’ is a good pollinator for other varieties. Late into leaf, it is rarely damaged by frost, and is more compact than the species. Height: 12m (39ft). Spread: 8m (26ft).
